Nitrogen for tires is becoming very popular in Canada, and many tire shops provide the service.  They sell the benefits that are provided by better tire pressure retention:  increased tire life, improved fuel economy and enhanced safety.  Here is an article from the Edmonton Journal that covers some recommended springtime checkups for your vehicle.  They recommend nitrogen tire inflation as a benefit for the driver.

Here is a video, and an accompanying article about nitrogen tire inflation that recently appeared on Sioux Falls Television.  While the benefits may be a bit overstated, there is no doubt that every tire person they spoke with believes it is a signficant benefit.  Even those tire guys that are currently not offering nitrogen filled tires.

Nitrogen Promotes Better Gas Mileage

This NYT Article talks about things we can do to improve gas mileage, especially as we see gas moving toward $4 per gallon.  As mentioned in the blog before about tire pressure, "maintaining the proper pressure at recommended levels can really have an impact on mileage."  Since a nitrogen inflated tire mainains its pressure longer, improving tire life and maximizing fuel efficiency, this article specifically mentions nitrogen inflation as a "trick of the trade."
